proof-of-concept experimental test and to be improved, substantiated, and corroborated along that path with a team of broad and varied expertise. (We wish to examine a step one next design work before we start such experimental tests.) It needs the confluence of the knowledge, competence, and expertise of neutronics, nuclear chemistry, nuclear backend technology, fusion physics and technology, laser and laser-driven gamma beam technology, system control engineering, and materials sciences at the least.
In conclusion we stand at the point of confluence of the human wisdom of the highest kind to not only harness the Mother Nature’s gift of energy via inner core of atoms, but also the highest conscience and tradition to respect her that we preserve the best of her by providing the cleanup or preservation of her beauty , i.e. “the toilet science” to clean contaminants (in addition to taking her gift as “kitchen science” to glean “goodies” of energy and materials). This human endeavor we are privileged to stand on is the confluence of four streams: (i) the fission and nuclear science started by Fermi (1942) and ongoing substantial efforts in reprocessing of the spent fuel and partitioning them; (ii) the invention of laser (1960) based on Einstein’s vision realized; (iii) the accelerator physics many giants have invented and innovated over the century (such as Don Kerst, 1940); (iv) the fusion research (declassified in 1956 to the good to all humanity, instead of weapons applications only) and we had a gift from Professor Norman Rostoker who integrated the streams of (iii) and (iv) into an accelerator-driven fusion reactor (2012). Our concept takes all these elements and their confluence, only by which we may perhaps have some glimpse into the Mother Nature’s wish that her beauty be maintained on Earth. See Fig. 12. We wish that her natural beauty, when she looks into herself, be found not disfigured by her call for appropriate means of restoration and cleanup (the “toilet science” to preserve her beauty).
