Executive Summary
• Efficient fast wave coupling with phased-array (4-strap) antenna has been demonstrated on LAPD:
Ø Fast wave coupling (at all phases) increases as antenna approaches denser plasma;
Ø Fast wave can couple and propagate into plasma core even when edge plasma density ne ~ 1x1018 m-3;
Ø Fast wave propagation direction is well controlled by relative phase between antenna straps;
Ø No slow wave has been observed, this is in good agreement with calculations of HHFW dispersion relation
• Matching network, decoupler, antenna impedance measurement probes and phase detector, have been built at TAE facility; they are ready for LAPD onsite installation and commissioning.
• After the completion of RF subsystem upgrade, two RF campaigns will be performed with 4-strap HHFW antenna.
