Key Innovations in the TAE Design
§ Extraction and acceleration
- Detached accelerator in combination with low-energy beamline
allows to dramatically improve voltage holding capacity, increase
pulse length, reduce H- stripping losses, reduce H+ backstreaming
§ H- ion production
- Active surface temperature control and distributed peripheral Cs feed
greatly improve efficiency and stability of H- production
- External magnet B-filter reduces grid power loading and tremendously
simplifies fabrication
§ Neutralization
- Plasma and photon neutralizers increase ion conversion efficiency
§ Power recuperation
- Electrostatic recuperators increase power efficiency
