Page 27 - Study of Neutral Gas Pressure Dynamics in C-2W Using Inverted Magnetron Ionization Gauges
P. 27

Electrical biasing from divertor electrodes used to rotate SOL plasma, stabilize FRC, ionize gas
Concentric electrodes in divertor vessels generate Er biased up to -3.5 kV near axis so rotation is in electron diamagnetic direction
GDT-style plasma gun mounted behind central orifice.
• Can provide an initial plasma and/or gas source for biasing
Equilibrium rotation is reached when the applied torque is balanced by drag (primarily from neutral ionization and charge-exchange).
Stabilizes azimuthal n=2 FRC deformations which degrade fast ion confinement.
Ionizes and heats mirror plasma surrounding FRC.
