• Ionization in each vessel section estimated by Balmer-⍺ imaging:
• Ionization in front of the plasma gun orifice (a, c) is constrained within a conical profile due to the magnetic field expansion in the divertors.
• Most ionization occurs in formation sections because most fueling is injected in this region.
• Power supply current is clearly correlated with total ionization as expected from plasma circuit model
