Congratulations to the TAE team and all of our collaborators on our new publication in Nuclear Fusion!

TAE’s fifth-generation fusion machine, Norman, has further improved plasma performance across the key elements of a fusion reaction, including extended steady-state operations (up to 40 milliseconds; limited by neutral-beam pulse length), enhanced plasma energy output (Etot ~13 kJ), and enhanced electron temperature (Te ~1 keV).

This progress was achieved in strong collaboration with some of our frequent research partners – including UC Irvine, UCLA, UC San Diego, Google, PPPL, Nihon University and University of Saskatchewan — and it puts us exactly where we want to be as we pursue demonstrating the viability of net energy generation from our approach!

Today we’re celebrating what would have been the 99th birthday of our late technology co-founder, Dr. Norman Rostoker

A renowned fusion innovator, mentor and friend, Rostoker was instrumental in shaping TAE as we know it today.

From our compact linear device, to our advanced beam-driven field-reversed configuration, to our ultimate goal of delivering commercial fusion power with the cleanest and safest fuel, Rostoker’s legacy lives on in our work.

Our original hydrogen-boron fusion R&D has already sparked two spin-off innovations that support our mission for a cleaner, healthier future:

Biologically targeted radiation therapy for the most difficult-to-treat cancers, via TAE Life Sciences

Smarter, more efficient power management systems for our electrified future with TAE Power Solutions

“We don’t see these as side projects,” TAE Power Solutions’ Chief Strategy Officer Lu-Fong Chua told The Guardian. “We see these as byproducts that have very high intrinsic value on their own for problems and challenges beyond energy generation.”

When brilliant minds come together, high energy results aren’t far behind.

For the 6th year in a row, TAE Technologies has won an INFUSE award from the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) for innovative fusion research conducted in partnership with a DOE National Lab.

This year’s grant goes to TAE’s Director of Computational Sciences Sean Dettrick, who will partner with the Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory (PPPL) to validate TAE’s FRC approach to plasma formation and its impact on improving power plant operations.

This research will not only accelerate TAE’s goal of bringing hydrogen-boron fusion to the grid, but it will also help equip the fusion industry with essential insights for future commercialization. Congratulations to Sean and the teams at TAE and PPPL!

Step inside TAE’s fusion research lab!

From our control room to our accelerator beams, get a closer look at how we run our state-of-the-art fusion research reactor, Norman.

Named after our late technology co-founder Dr. Norman Rostoker, Norman stands 22 feet tall by 80 feet long, and conducts 1,000 fusion experiments monthly. Learn more:

The Biological Theory That Explains Why Investors Are Bullish on Fusion

The Biological Theory That Explains Why Investors Are Bullish on Fusion

For a field that has existed for more than 60 years, a lot has happened in fusion research in the last half-decade. In fusion’s case, a trio of technological advances converged in the early 2010s to unleash a wave of innovation. “I think you see this beautiful inflection point in this field where the science maturity and technical capability come together,” said Michl Binderbauer, CEO of TAE Technologies.

The Frontrunners in the Trillion-Dollar Race for Limitless Fusion Power

With energy prices on the rise, along with demands for energy independence and an urgent need for carbon-free power, plans to walk away from nuclear energy are now being revised in Japan, South Korea, and even Germany. TAE’s approach, which involves creating a fusion reaction at incredibly high heat, has a key advantage.
