2025 US-Japan FRC Workshop

TAE Technologies Norman to Norm

FRC Workshop Overview

This workshop has developed from discussions on the high-beta characteristics of FRC (Field-Reversed Configuration) research, which has been pioneered by both Japan and the United States. This year’s workshop is co-hosted by TAE and UCI. A satellite workshop of APS-DPP 2025, the aim is to discuss the role of ions with large orbits in magnetically confined plasmas across magnetic confinement systems. Interested participants can learn more about registration and agenda at the link below.

Date:
November 21 – November 22, 2025
Location: Irvine, CA | UCI campus, Interdisciplinary Science & Engineering Building (ISEB) room 1010 (see Google map)

TAE Facility Tour

TAE Technologies invites you to an exclusive tour of our flagship fusion research facility in Orange County, California.

This guided experience offers a rare, firsthand look at “Norm,” the reconfigured and optimized successor to our fifth-generation National Laboratory-scale device, “Norman.”

Purpose-built to validate TAE’s proprietary advanced beam-driven Field-Reversed Configuration (FRC) approach, Norm now operates with significantly greater efficiency and performance.

Through strategic reengineering, Norm has been streamlined to deliver best-in-class plasma performance with approximately 50% less system complexity and cost, while achieving a historic first in fusion science: forming, heating and sustaining FRC plasma using only neutral-beam injection (NBI).

Norm supports hundreds of experiments per month, as we drive toward our broader mission: commercial fusion power based on aneutronic and globally abundant hydrogen-boron fuel for a sustainable, scalable power solution for the planet. This visit is designed for scientists, engineers and technical stakeholders across disciplines who are advancing the future of energy, advanced physics and electrification technologies

We welcome your interest in seeing the systems, strategies and science behind TAE’s pathway to grid-ready fusion.
