In TAE’s C-2W machine*, a high-beta field-reversed configuration (FRC) is sustained within a magnetic mirror. Various mechanisms can cause rapid (<1 ms) collapse of the high-beta FRC state into a lower-beta mirror state, herein referred to as a plasma disruption.
This workshop covers all computer applications using High Performance Computing (HPC) in the field of fusion research. Participants will gain a broad understanding of the status of fusion HPC research internationally by attending presentations by leading researchers on a broad range of topics.
The National Society of Black Physicists hosts the largest academic meeting of minority physicists in the US, and this year will host its conference in partnership with the National Society of HispanicPhysicists. This year’s conference theme is “Merging Nuclei – Creating Stronger Forces,” and will consist of educational sessions, exhibitions, a career fair, and poster sessions on current trends in physics and science.
Large, state-sponsored efforts and private startups are reporting breakthroughs that many in the industry now think will lead to viable fusion energy. And in developing such fusion power plants, we are creating new technologies and solutions that can reach far beyond the task of energy generation.
