An upgraded array of energy analyzers and bolometers has been installed in the divertors of C-2W to measure axial power losses as well as the electron temperature and ion energy distribution function (IEDF) of the plasma at the termination point of the open field lines. relatively large Larmor radius.

Original array of diagnostics on C-2W’s divertor electrodes
demonstrated the functionality of C-2W’s expander divertors:
• Measured Ambipolar Potential of 4-5 Te
• Small Debye Sheath of ~1 Te

FRC plasma embedded in a mirror- confined scrape-off layer. Large-orbit fast ions from Neutral Beam Injection heat and stabilize the plasma.

An array of diagnostics was installed across the divertor electrode plates of C-2W.
They are well-situated to study electron heat transport on the open field line plasma that surrounds the FRC.
