A high-confinement operating regime [1] with plasma lifetimes significantly exceeding past empirical scaling laws was recently obtained by combining plasma gun edge biasing and tangential Neutral Beam Injection (NBI) in the C-2 field-reversed configuration (FRC) experiment [2, 3].

Several different antennas have recently been fielded on the TAE Technologies C-2 [1] experimental system to measure radiation emission in the range of 1-60 GHz, where the fundamental electron cyclotron frequency is approximately 2.5 GHz at the edge of the field-reversed configuration (FRC).

Without magnetic perturbations, NBI energy confinement time is ~500ms. Most NBI energy goes on heating electrons. Supports the interpretation of HPF results.

A Quasi-1D (Q1D) transport code is developed at Tri Alpha for predicting and interpreting the macroscopic time evolution of FRC plasmas.
